1,200 people cross frozen Lake Michigan for rare view of underwater crucifix; honors drowned Southgate man


“On Aug. 12, 1962, carried by the U.S. Icebreaker Sundew, the crucifix was laid to rest in the waters of Lake Michigan to commemorate Charles Raymond, a diver from Southgate, Michigan who drowned in nearby Torch Lake.”
