“As a result, Lincoln Park joins a growing list of Downriver communities that already opted out of commercial sales of marijuana, including Allen Park, Flat Rock, Gibraltar, Grosse Ile, Huron Township, Melvindale, Riverview, Trenton, Woodhaven and Wyandotte.”
Her sister, Tiffany Wahl, noted that Thomason had been involved in the ROTC in high school and settled on a military career long ago.
“He was a hero to all of us,” she said.
“The Department of Defense announced that Pfc. Michael Thomason, 28, was killed April 29 in Kobani, Syria, from wounds he received in a non-combat incident.”
“A lot of people in the immigrant community are wary of Lincoln Park, for example, even though Lincoln Park has a considerable immigrant population,” he said. “They’re concerned that any traffic stop could be turned into some sort of pretext to detain a family member.”
Michigan State Police report the incident occurred near the Rouge River Bridge. A witness said one of the vehicles involved was a silver or white Chrysler 300. Police were also told the shooting occurred while two vehicles were driving on the interstate. The victim has been identified as a 28-year-old man from Lincoln Park.
State Troopers were in Lincoln Park on a drug bust Wednesday, assisting the Downriver Area Narcotics Association task force, when a Trooper began having symptoms of an overdoes. Apparently he contacted a cocaine and fentanyl mix and was given two doses of Narcan. He started to recover and was taken to the hospital.
